Assemblyman Gabryszak resigns amid sexual-harassment allegations (Updated) | Politics on the Hudson

Assemblyman Gabryszak to resign amid sexual-harassment allegations. “Retirement” is effective immediately.

“My decision today is based upon the impact that this has had on my family and my concern for the important work of the Assembly,” Gabryszak said at the news conference, which was broadcast live by Time Warner Cable News. “I have therefore decided that after 32 years of public service I will retire from the New York State Assembly.”

Gabryszak made the right decision for his family and the State Assembly.

The Buffalo-area assemblyman faced numerous calls to resign if the allegations were true, including from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan.

Silver issued a statement welcoming Gabryszak’s decision to resign saying that sexual harassment was unacceptable.
