Former Assemblyman Michael Benjamin Discusses Impact of Rapfogel Arrest on Assembly | Capitol Tonight

Former Assemblyman Michael Benjamin joined Capitol Tonight host Liz Benjamin from NY1’s Chelsea Market studios to explain why he believes Silver needs to relinquish his leadership post. In Benjamin’s eyes, the arrest this week of Silver’s close friend (and husband of his chief of staff) Willie Rapfogel, on charges that he stole millions from his former employer, the Met Council, was the last straw for the speaker.

Benjamin believes the next Assembly speaker will likely be black or Hispanic, and completely dismissed the idea of an upstate candidate managing to succeed in the downstate-dominated conference.
