Boyland’s sad saga continues…

This case involving my former colleague Assemblyman William Boyland gets sadder and sorrier each passing day. The latest sad chapter comes in today’s NY Times:

” The former chief of staff for William F. Boyland Jr., a Democratic assemblyman facing federal bribery charges, is scheduled to plead guilty on Thursday to playing a role in the bribery scheme, as part of an agreement with the government that could produce new evidence against Mr. Boyland, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation.

The former aide, Ry-Ann Hermon, was charged in 2011 with accepting bribes from undercover agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation posing as real estate investors who came to Mr. Boyland for help securing business deals. Ms. Hermon, like Mr. Boyland, accepted cash bribes from the agents in transactions that were secretly recorded, according to the complaints filed against them.

Her expected plea and cooperation give the government more leverage against Mr. Boyland, who has remained defiant in proclaiming his innocence despite the audio recordings that prosecutors say connect him to the bribery scheme.”
