m.NYPOST.com: State Sen. Huntley set to be arrested over charity money

Like the aphorism says “bad news comes in 3s.”

First were the Facebook revelations involving Bronx Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera and her “boy toy” jobs program.

Next came the censure and demotion of Brooklyn Assemblyman and Brooklyn parts boss Vito Lopez due to sexual harassment of two female staffers.

Now comes word that Queens state Sen. Shirley Huntley, who allegedly funneled money into her pet charity, will surrender to police tomorrow, when she expects to be indicted and arrested.

The New York Post reported on Sunday:

Sen. Huntley would not specify what the charges against her will be,but the bizarre press conference she convened yesterday came months after damning reports revealed that her ties to nonprofits allegedly cost taxpayers more than $400,000.

Huntley’s lawyer, Sally J.M. Butler, spoke through most of the haphazard event outside the senator’s home, in front of which stood a campaign sign urging voters to re-elect her in the upcoming Democratic primary.

The announcement comes more than a year after The Post reported how Huntley, who represents Jamaica, Laurelton and South Ozone Park, tried to direct $155,000 to her Parent Workshop nonprofit.

An investigation by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman followed, and in December, he announced the indictments of four alleged schemers.

The indictments led Huntley allies to cooperate with the state investigators, said a source with knowledge of the probe.

“She’s aware the noose is tightening,” said a source familiar with the probe.

  1. Dale Benjamin Drakeford says:

Is it local politics or Almighty national weather that is messaging us on the state of public service agents? Progress is being made on the affront of the false front and facade of corrupt elected officials. Voters are the blame for not monitoring the power they gift…and what about Shelton? Does he get a bye on his hush hush coverup? Progress demands that he does not. It begs the question, why any of these people should be representing us? Voters must ask that question and answer it without bias. It reminds me of the ones I asked four years ago of the presidential candidates to revisit here in paraphrase: “Why Obama? He’s lefty. Why Biden? His labial disability churns honest in his gut to slide and slip to show up on his lip. Why her? We never had one of those. Why Ron Paul? He makes you hear the truth. Why John Edwards? The hairdo. He puts family first. The hairdo. Why Mitt Romney? He’s a Mormon and he acts like one and we never had one of those. Why Al Gore? Because political correctness demands it, because he won before…”
Locally we have been losers for a long time, because locally we are passive to the task that winning requires ongoing vigilence of those we elect.
