In an article published in ProPublica, New York’s former DEC commissioner, Pete Grannis, said the executive order was “more of a political cover than a substantive effect on the ongoing work of the department.” Paterson fired Grannis in October after a memo Grannis wrote criticizing Paterson’s proposed budget cuts was leaked to the press.
